Solar Energy News
ADT Solar exited the market in January. The solar company is still relatively new (started in 2021) and was named a top residential solar contractor in 2023. Based on the press release, ADT’s core security business performed well, while the solar business struggled. As a result, ADT is exiting the market and focusing on the core business.
When a company like this closes, customers might feel left out to dry. What can your solar business do? Consider providing services to help the homeowners in need, such as assistance figuring out what to do about a solar loan, lease, warranty, or even finishing their project. If your team can meet a customer where they are at, in any part of the process, you can find success.
Qcells is at it again with another partnership. This time Qcells is partnering with SOLARCYCLE to recycle solar panels in the US’s largest silicon-based panel factory. This collaboration ensures materials are reused in the domestic supply chain for clean energy products. SOLARCYCLE’s advanced technology recovers over 95% of the module’s value, which exceeds industry standards (whoop whoop).
This partnership is significant because it's the country’s first complete solar supply chain. What happens to your company's solar installations at the end of its life cycle?
Solar Policy Updates
Connecticut: Updates to the Energy Storage Solutions program in Connecticut include battery storage installation incentives, including a $16,000 incentive for residential customers (a $7,500 increase). Additionally, low-income and underserved community incentives also received significant increases.
Idaho: Joining states like California, Idaho is shifting away from net-metering and towards net-billing. The new comp rate will be 5.96 ¢/kWh (nearly 3 ¢/kWh decrease).
New Jersey: A recent bill was signed to expand community solar in New Jersey and encourage low-income and moderate-income residents to participate. A streamlined eligibility process and an increase in community solar size provides more opportunities for New Jersey residents.
Washington: The Senate and House introduced the Fair Access to Community Solar Act allowing community solar developers to leverage state and federal incentives to increase energy bill savings.
